Parewi Duwa Temple

A Buddhist island temple facing the Matara seafront.

Parewi Duwa, also called Paravi Duwa or Matara’s Pigeon Island, is a small island temple off the town’s seafront. Its island setting adds a distinctive religious and coastal stop to a Matara visit. This is a different place from Pigeon Island National Park near Trincomalee.

HOW IT CAN FIT

Shape it into a wider route.

Combine the seafront and temple with a separate visit to Star Fort, allowing time to experience each at a comfortable pace.

GOOD TO DISCUSS

Plan around the details.

This is an active place of worship: dress respectfully and follow local guidance on footwear and photography. Confirm current bridge access before planning to cross.
